Last August 19, 2022, was an important date for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, which officially became the longest-awaited installment in the series since the previous chapter, namely The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the launch of which five years, five months, and nineteen days have passed at the time of writing this news.

The previous record was held by The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which was released precisely five years, five months, and fifteen days after The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.
Of course, Hyrule Warriors: The Age of Calamity was not included in the count because only official chapters are mentioned.
With the increased complexity of video games, it is unfortunately normal that there can be major delays in launches, between internal problems and the ambitions of development teams. By now, development cycles of 4 and 5 years are the norm for a triple-A and can go beyond that in the case of particularly challenging projects.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 was supposed to be released in 2022, but in March, director Eiji Aonuma announced that it would be postponed until 2023, as happened to so many games in 2022. Little harm was done, as Switch's lineup has been as rich as ever throughout the year. Just recently, the excellent Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was released, to say, and Splatoon 3 and Bayonetta 3 are coming soon. However, it is only natural that fans will eagerly await the new Zelda, since we are still talking about one of Nintendo's major home sagas, alive for more than thirty-six years.
