Steam Deck: Nintendo is blocking videos showing emulation of Nintendo Switch games

02.03.2022 176

Nintendo hasn't taken kindly to Steam Deck's emulator potential and is blocking all videos in which Valve's handheld-PC hybrid is shown grappling with emulating Nintendo Switch games, via CEMU.

As of now, there are no official releases on this, but the affected videos bear the following inscription:

"Video not available.
This video includes content from Nintendo that has been blocked by the same owner for copyright reasons."

As always, it's fair to remember that emulation is legal when the emulator owns an original copy of the game. It must be said that Steam Deck, albeit indirectly and in a very veiled way, competes with Nintendo Switch for its portable nature, so the house of Mario may have an interest in not having its games run so well on Valve's hardware.

To those who were wondering why Nintendo can block these videos, it should be remembered that the copyright of all material taken from a video game, including movies and images, belongs to the copyright holder(s) and not to those who recorded/captured it, a detail that many often forget.
