Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, record views for Amazon Prime

It certainly looks like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was a success, as it set a new viewing record for Amazon Prime Video, with more than 25 million viewers of the first two episodes just released on the streaming video service.

The 25 million views were recorded on the first day of release of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, setting an all-time record for Amazon's subscription service. It is still early to make economic assessments, but it looks like a great start for what has been one of the most expensive productions ever for Amazon Prime Video and for video streaming services in general.

As of September 2, the first two episodes have been available on Amazon Prime Video, and the response has been somewhat mixed between an all-too-positive reception from critics and several criticisms that have instead come mainly from the public, particularly fans of the original.

In any case, from a ratings standpoint the series seems to be already a success, with more than 25 million users "tuning in" to the first two episodes on the first day of the launch of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Set before the events described in The Hobbit, the new TV series takes up the universe created by J.R.R. Tolkien by telling an original story but trying to be faithful to the reference materials.
